Dahab Overview

Dahab is one of the most attractive beach resorts in South Sinai, located half way between Sharm el Sheikh in the south and Nuweiba in the north. It is a small town located on the southeast cost of the Sinai peninsula and 62 km from Sharm El Sheik. The characteristic of Dahab being a shore covered with fine golden sand that might have given Dahab its Arabic name: "Gold". Dahab transformed from being a modest fishing village into a favorable diving tourist destination. Dahab is renowned for its windsurfing, snorkeling and scuba diving sports. Many of the coral reefs are just adjacent to the beaches. Dahab used to be a place for camping for Backpackers travelers, there were only modest hostels but recently the city developed to include a range of hotels that provide a wide range of facilities.
History
Dahab was restored to Egyptian rule in 1982 after its occupation by Israel. Who named the town as Di-Zahav, a place mentioned in the Exodus from Egypt. . Dahab has been transformed from a remote place into a main tourist resort Major development took place that transformed the city from a remote area for the backpackers travelling independently and staying in hostels to a touristic area with lots of international hotel chains which established ancillary fascilities. Dahab is renowened today as a treasured diving destination.
